The NUST Family welcomes Lieutenant General Javed Mahmood Bukhari (Retired) as Rector – he assumed the responsibilities of Rector NUST on December 16, 2020. Lieutenant General Javed Mahmood Bukhari (Retired) was commissioned in Pakistan Army’s Corps of Engineers in 1984, while winning the coveted Sword of Honour. He is a graduate of Cranfield University UK (MSc Defence Technology); Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad (MSc War Studies); University of Balochistan Quetta (MSc Art & Science of Warfare); and Military College of Engineering (MCE) Risalpur (BE Civil Engineering). He has held multiple command and staff appointments, which include leading an Infantry Division as well as Frontier Works Organisation.
As Lieutenant General he was appointed Quartermaster General of Pakistan Army and later served as the Commander of a Corps. He has also held the honorary appointment of Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineers, besides remaining on the faculty of MCE, National Defence University Islamabad, Command & Staff College Quetta, and Pakistan Military Academy Abbottabad. In recognition of his meritorious service, he has been awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).
He has a special knack for swimming and is fond of riding; he is also a reasonably good player of badminton.
