The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and Research and Development Solutions (RADS) are jointly holding a seminar on "Understanding how Adolescent Girls and Women Learn, Process and Use Reproductive, Maternal and Neonatal Health Information" at 10:00 am on October 25th, 2013 at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad.

Although Pakistan is a signatory on Millennium Development Goals commitments, our challenges from the ground have constrained our progress in achievement of goals pertaining to Gender Equality and Empowering Women, reducing Child Mortality Rates and improving Maternal Health. With new political leadership and commitment, we are hopeful that implementation and policy challenges can be revisited and there is tremendous scope for new strategies and interventions.

In this regard, NCSW and RADS are jointly organizing a seminar to highlight issues of Reproductive Health, Mother and Child Health information needs of girls and women in Pakistan along with the issue of Early Age Marriages. This seminar will highlight the following themes:

  • To examine how we can translate evidence from research into creating an enabling environment for acquisition and use of reproductive health information for adolescent girls in Pakistan
  • To revisit the issue of early age marriages and propose practical solutions
  • To establish a list of potential program and policy strategies for improving outcomes

The goals of this seminar are to promote dialogue on how the different stakeholders i.e. government, civil society, NGOs, media, academia and youth can work together to improve the situation of adolescent girls’ and women’s access to information and rights on early age marriages. We look forward to active participation by the Social Sciences students and sharing of valuable insights and experiences.

Please feel free to contact us if there are any queries. We are extending this invitation to selected institutions only and there are limited spots for students. Therefore, please RSVP your participation at the earliest at "irfan@resdev.org" along with your resume by October 14th, 2013.
